Vocalists Wanted
The Young Musicians Programme regional youth jazz ensemble, Jambone, is on the hunt for vocalists for a special project in the spring term 2012. Candidates who are successful will take part in Gateshead International Jazz Festival, performing alongside Jambone on the Concourse in a specially commissioned work by British jazz saxophonist and composer Andy Sheppard.
We are looking for Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Bass lines to be covered, by singers aged 16 to 21. The music has been inspired by African songs so we will be looking for voices that can blend together beautifully, and show depth and feeling through their voice.
Vocalists who are interested in trying out for this fantastic opportunity will be required to:
- Sing in harmony
- Take on solos
- Work independently between rehearsals
- Work together as a group, as well as with members of Jambone
- Be able to read music
- Commit to all the rehearsal dates as outlined below
It promises to be an exciting new work blending different genres and musical styles.
Auditions will take place on Saturday 14th January 2012, with call back on Sunday 15th January 2012.
