Northern Sinfonia with Heinrich Schiff

Hall One

Heinrich Schiff: Conductor
Francesco Piemontesi: Piano

Haydn Symphony no.59 in A ‘Fire’

Beethoven Piano Concerto no.2 in B flat

Mozart Symphony no.36 in C

The first of November, 1783, and Mozart had just four days to deliver a symphony for the baying crowds at Linz. What he delivered – and on deadline too – could hardly have been more splendid, expansive and well-crafted. Like the best of Haydn’s, Mozart’s symphony contained excitement and solemnity in equal measure, twice plunging gloriously into the ethereal brightness of C major.
